International Children’s Education Sharing resources, supporting families and teachers overseas... You are here: Parents > Articles Parents Teaching Overseas (PTO)What is it?Parents Teaching Overseas was a periodical initiated in 1991 by SIL International and published through 2003. Its purpose was to support parents who were teaching their own children overseas in places with few educational resources. Though it was originally started for those within the SIL community, many others subscribed to it. Publication was terminated at the end of 2003 due to the proliferation of other resources and improved internet access since 1991. What did it contain?Parents Teaching Overseas contained articles on topics such as schooling options (nontraditional, traditional, boarding, online), teaching tips (how to teach spelling, writing...), parenting tips (how to include your family in ministry, available resources, how to handle the dual roles of teacher and parent), curriculum recommendations and reviews, and issues related to raising children in multiple cultural settings. What is on the website from PTO?We have taken the articles that we feel are still helpful/relevant today and posted them on this website to make them more readily available to others around the world. © 2005 SIL International, all rights reserved,
